FAQs
The best way to build a pergola is to choose professional pergola builders for the job. But if you wish to do it yourself, there are a few things that you need to know. Before you begin construction, check the building codes of your neighbourhood and determine if you need a building permit. Once that is taken care of, following these steps:
- Prepping the area
- Dig a hole below the frost line
- Set the posts
- Levelling the posts
- Prep the rafters and crossbeams
- Install the cross beams and rafters
- Add finishing touches
If you are planning to build a pergola with a height of more than 2.5 metres then you will need to get a building permit. Along with your building permit application, you will have to apply for consent if you are planning to position a pergola over an asset or easement that belongs to some authority. Our local pergola builders can assist you with all your questions about outdoor decking.
A pergola should be built at least 5m away from the boundary fence and up to 9m in other areas and it should be behind the building line. The average height of the pergola should be 3m and it shouldn’t be bigger than 25 sq. metres.
